Garment Sewing Workshop- Intro to Pants

This two day class is an introductory garment workshop focused on sewing a pair of relaxed fit elastic waist pants. This pattern is designed for light- mid weight woven fabric. This PDF pattern will need to be purchased through the original designer. Search the following to locate the pattern for our class: Helen’s Closet June shorts and pants.

We will be making View C. You only need to print pages 1, 20-58.

PDF patterns need to be printed prior to the first class. Please reference the PDF printing guide for help.

Who this class is for:

  • You know the basics! Maybe you’ve made a tote bag or pillow case and are ready to make something you can wear.

What you will learn:

  • How to accurately take you measurements and interpret a size chart

  • How to read a pattern- pattern markings/ symbols and what they mean

  • Fabric grain/ cross grain and which way to cut the pattern pieces

  • Cutting layouts

  • Understanding pattern symbols

  • Simple adjustments- shorten/ lengthen lines, grading between sizes

  • Ironing vs pressing fabric

  • Finishing seams

  • Sewing in-seam or patch pockets

  • Topstitching an elasticated waist band

  • And more!

This is an open ended workshop where you can get a helping hand on a project you’re working on. Whether you are looking to get help on a specific technique or skill, clarification of instructions, or looking to sew with other sewists, this is for you!

I am eager to share my sewing knowledge and learn alongside whatever project you're working on.

Who this Class is for—

Anyone who would like a helping hand with a project they are working on. 

Some things I can help with —

  • How to read and assemble PDF patterns

  • Taking measurements

  • Picking a size

  • Pattern adjustments and fitting; lengthen/ shorten, grade between sizes etc.

  • Clarifying sewing terms, pattern steps and jargon

Intro to Garment Sewing

Intro to Garment Sewing

This is an introductory class on how to sew your own clothing, no prior sewing experience necessary. We will be making the Craft Studio tee from Matchy Matchy Sewing Club which is a free pattern when you sign up for their newsletter. It is a cropped boxy top with ¾ length sleeves. This pattern can easily be lengthened to suit your preference.

Beginners! This is a perfect first garment project to take on.

Garment Sewing Workshop- Tulip Top

This two day class is for the Tulip Top by Fortiv. It is a corset or stays inspired pattern that is fitted at the bust with ease at the waist. The lace up sides allow for easy size adjustability for both comfort and is also great for anyone who fluctuates in size. If you would like to add this whimsical layering piece to your wardrobe this is the class for you.

Upcycling with Applique

Upcycling with Applique

We will be going over different applique techniques and how to apply them. I encourage you to upcycle pieces in your wardrobe that need a refresh or bring in a “me-made” garment that you want to add extra special flair to. I will be providing applique templates but ultimately this is a class to let your creativity run wild!
