Garment Sewing Workshop- Intro to Pants

This two day class is an introductory garment workshop focused on sewing a pair of relaxed fit elastic waist pants. This pattern is designed for light- mid weight woven fabric. This PDF pattern will need to be purchased through the original designer. Search the following to locate the pattern for our class: Helen’s Closet June shorts and pants.

We will be making View C. You only need to print pages 1, 20-58.

Who this class is for:

  • You know the basics! Maybe you’ve made a tote bag or pillow case and are ready to make something you can wear.

What you will learn:

  • How to accurately take you measurements and interpret a size chart

  • How to read a pattern- pattern markings/ symbols and what they mean

  • Fabric grain/ cross grain and which way to cut the pattern pieces

  • Cutting layouts

  • Understanding pattern symbols

  • Simple adjustments- shorten/ lengthen lines, grading between sizes

  • Ironing vs pressing fabric

  • Finishing seams

  • Sewing in-seam or patch pockets

  • Topstitching an elasticated waist band

  • And more!
